Blue Strangers - a blues band from the south of Sweden - consists of singer and keyboard player Torbjoern Engstroem, singer and bass player Mac Robertsson, guitarists Jimmy Silow and Lars Berggren, harmonica player Calle Maansson and drummer Ulf Niss. These very experienced band members have played in a huge number of bands in various genres, blues bands mainly of course, since the nineteensixties. (…all right, the band youngster Calle wasn’t born then, but the other five…)

The band plays a nice mixture of old and new blues. Some of the repertoire is composed in the nineteentwenties and thirties. In the southern states of USA, in the beginning of the 20:th century, a huge number of blues styles were created and The Blue Strangers have picked up material by blues composers like Cow Cow Davenport, Memphis Jug Band, Robert Johnsson and Blind Willie McTell. Some of the songs that the band is playing are examples of Chicago blues and, in this field, songs by legends like Willie Dixon, Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters are to be heard. The band also has, on its repertoire, songs by later icons like Ray Charles, Clarence Gatemouth Brown and Corey Harris.

Blue Strangers certainly is no cover band, they make personal interpretations from all the material they find in these rich sources, where there still are huge amounts of great music material to be found and brought out to the world.
